Like skincare products and cosmetics, hair care products are yet another chemically infused necessity us women have grown to rely on for tamed tresses and extreme hold. However, more often than not, these artificially made products boast natural ingredients on the label to deter you from noticing the unnatural additives they are predominantly made up of.
So why purchase an often overly expensive product that’s full of harmful toxins and a minimal amount of natural ingredients, when Mother Nature offers an abundance of ingredients that you can simply make at home.
Here are 5 of my favourite and very easy to make hair care products – made with just 2 ingredients:
1. Deep Conditioning Moisture Mask
Massage half a cup of honey with two tablespoons of olive oil into clean, damp hair. Leave in for 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
2. Leave in Treatment
Mix equal parts coconut oil and aloe vera gel for a lightweight leave in conditioning treatment. The coconut oil will tame your hair a little whilst also giving it a lovely shine.
3. Styling Wax
Throw half a cup of shea butter and one tablespoon of olive oil (or any other carrier oil) in a bowl (you can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil) and whip with an electric mixer. Store in a jar and leave to set overnight. Come morning you will have a perfect natural styling wax!
4. Curl Moisturizing Spray
Mix one part filtered water with one part aloe vera gel in a spray bottle. Your curls or waves will look refreshed all day! You can also add a couple of drops of our favourite essential oil for a nice aroma.
5. Defrizz Serum
Boil half a cup of flax seeds in one and a half cups of water; the flax seeds will produce a sticky gel. Strain and discard the seeds, then mix the sticky gel with some coconut oil until it thickens to your desire.
I used to spend thousands of dollars a year on the best hair care products and I felt my hair was benefiting from them, but since I’ve been using these natural hair care products I’ve noticed my hair is healthier than ever.
